Preprint-centric publishing model gets major boost
Reported byNature News ↗·Sourced by Goodlede
The European Commission and funders from 11 countries are expanding the Open Research Europe platform, which now offers full editorial and peer-review services free to 2.5 million researchers. By early November, the expanded version launches with a €16 million budget through 2030, governed by the Commission and hosted by CERN.
The model is relatively new; eLife adopted it in late 2022 and lost its impact factor within two years. Long-term sustainability and widespread adoption remain to be seen.
Goodlede runs a two-pass source check on every story: one pass finds it, a second skeptical pass re-verifies the claim and writes what it doesn’t prove. This is a source check, not an independent fact-check — confirm anything important at the link above.
