Ontario has connected 511,000 people to family physicians since launching its primary health care plan in January 2025, with the province on track to ensure every Ontarian has a primary care provider by 2029. Since 2018, Ontario has added roughly 20,000 doctors to the workforce and is expanding medical schools by 67 percent.
Over 2.5 million Ontarians still lack a family doctor; this progress represents progress toward the goal, not its completion.
