New Vera C. Rubin telescope spots possible new dwarf planet beyond Pluto
Reported byCBC ↗·Sourced by Goodlede
The Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile has spotted 2026 ED138, an icy object estimated at 600 to 1,500 kilometres across, orbiting about 46 times farther from the Sun than Earth. If confirmed, it would be among the largest dwarf planets.
The object is currently a dwarf planet candidate and requires formal confirmation.
Goodlede runs a two-pass source check on every story: one pass finds it, a second skeptical pass re-verifies the claim and writes what it doesn’t prove. This is a source check, not an independent fact-check — confirm anything important at the link above.
