Mars Express's High Resolution Stereo Camera captured detailed images of Amazonis Mensa, a flat-topped mountain towering up to three kilometres above surrounding plains in an ancient Martian region. The landscape shows evidence of lava flows from three billion years ago and distinctive wind-carved ridges called yardangs formed by sand erosion.
