On 3 September 2026, the ESA/JAXA BepiColombo spacecraft will separate its Mercury Transfer Module from its two science orbiters, the first critical step in what ESA describes as one of the most operationally challenging planetary arrival sequences ever attempted. The livestream begins at 13:45 CEST, with the separation at 14:00.
Science operations will not begin until April 2027; the two science orbiters will orbit Mercury together before separating from each other in December 2026.
