Historic Brooklyn firehouse becomes new home for music program

Work began on October 6 to turn the former Engine Company 204 firehouse on Degraw Street in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, empty since it was decommissioned in 2003, into the first permanent home of the Noel Pointer Foundation, which gives free music lessons to about 2,000 New York City students a year. The $17.8 million project adds lesson rooms, recording studios, a music library and gallery, a performance hall and a garden.
Construction has only just started and is expected to take about two years. The city first announced the project in 2019 and then expected it to open by 2024.
