Two veterans can make further MoD claim over LGBT ban

Veterans Steven Stewart and Mark Shephard, who were forced to resign from the RAF and Royal Military Police under the UK's 1967–2000 LGBT ban, won the first stage of a High Court legal battle against the Ministry of Defence on Wednesday. They challenged an 'unfair' compensation scheme that offered them £7,000 and £5,000 respectively but refused claims for larger sums, while those formally dismissed received up to £70,000. Justice Eady ruled they could proceed to a full hearing.
This is the first stage of the legal challenge; the full hearing and outcome remain to come.
