Trail cameras capture rare photo of an elusive lynx in the Himalayas: 'First confirmed evidence'
Reported byMongabay India ↗·Sourced by Goodlede
Camera trap in January 2026 at 5,250 metres on Sikkim's Tso Lhamo plateau recorded the first confirmed photographic evidence of a Eurasian lynx in the state—and only the second such record from the Eastern Himalayas. The sighting comes from a long-term snow leopard and rangeland monitoring programme led by the Sikkim forest department and WWF-India.
The image documents presence and distribution; it does not indicate population size or trend.
