This farm raised thousands of pigs for slaughter. Now it's growing mushrooms instead

The Faaborg family in central Iowa converted two barns that each held 1,100 hogs into specialty mushroom operations, with technical and financial support from The Transfarmation Project, which provides open-source blueprints to help industrial livestock farmers transition to sustainable agriculture.

The Transfarmation Project is still working to scale this model across the U.S. pig industry; the broader impact depends on adoption by other farmers.
