In Q2 2026, the US installed 20.2 gigawatt-hours of battery storage capacity, a record for a single quarter; utility-scale batteries accounted for 18 GWh, with Arizona alone adding 6.2 GWh. Battery storage supplied more electricity to the grid in the first eight months of 2026 than during all of 2025.
Residential battery storage fell 27% year over year in the same quarter, partly due to removal of a federal tax credit.
