Researchers at North Carolina State University created teardrop-shaped soft robots that leap upward or forward when exposed to infrared light and continue jumping as long as the light is present, without needing manual reset between jumps. The self-resetting mechanism uses a V-shaped aluminum tube to twist and store elastic energy, which releases all at once to launch the robot.
