Slogging North of 60: A Lifetime of Winter Expeditions in Northern Canada

Between 1975 and 2020, Peter Heebink completed over 70 self-supported winter ski and snowshoe expeditions across the Yukon, Northwest Territories, British Columbia, and Alaska, traveling more than 15,000km with a rotating cast of over 160 companions. At 83, he reflects on how the expeditions evolved from experimental six-day trips to month-long journeys, and how he pioneered techniques like manhauling sleds that became standard for polar exploration teams.
