Researchers map ancient world beneath southern Barrier Reef

A 24-day research voyage aboard CSIRO's RV Investigator co-designed with the Darumbal and Woppaburra Traditional Owners has mapped submerged ancient rivers, lakes, estuaries, and beaches beneath the southern Great Barrier Reef—a coastal plain inhabited by First Nations people before rising sea levels inundated it 7,000 years ago. Land and Sea Country Rangers from both groups worked alongside scientists, weaving cultural knowledge and songlines into the research from the outset.
