Researchers Have Discovered a New Way To Reduce Chronic Nerve Pain
Reported bySciTechDaily ↗·Sourced by Goodlede
Researchers at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center discovered that the cancer-linked protein BRAF drives chronic nerve pain after injury and that existing BRAF-inhibitor cancer drugs (vemurafenib) and MEK inhibitors (selumetinib) reduced pain sensitivity to touch, pressure, and heat in preclinical nerve injury models without affecting normal pain responses.
The findings are from preclinical models; clinical translation in humans will require further research and testing.
