Researchers document rare bigfin squid encounter 2 miles under the waves

Scientists at Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute documented the first confirmed sighting of a Magnapinna bigfin squid in the Northeastern Pacific Ocean on August 7 at a depth of 3,277 meters, observing its characteristic enormous fins and extraordinarily long trailing appendages; fewer than 70 of these creatures have ever been seen worldwide.
