Quitting smoking is hard. A Medicare change may push doctors to give more help
Reported bySTAT News ↗·Sourced by Goodlede
Medicare is proposing a 19% increase in reimbursement for physicians who offer counseling on quitting cigarettes and other tobacco products, as well as assessments of alcohol and substance misuse during doctor visits. The change reflects the role these services play in preventing and managing chronic disease.
The change is still proposed and pending public comment through September 14; finalization is not guaranteed.
