NYC officials want to put rain gardens on top of bus stops
Reported byGothamist ↗·Sourced by Goodlede
A bus shelter in Brooklyn's Brownsville neighborhood now features a green roof with native grasses that can absorb 16 gallons of rainwater to reduce flooding, cool the shelter for riders, and serve as a prototype for potential expansion across the five boroughs.
The pilot is in place through at least November 2026, with nearby reflective roofs monitored through May 2027.
