NHS staff get 'landmark' payout over nitrous oxide exposure
Reported byBBC England ↗·Sourced by Goodlede
121 NHS staff at Basildon Hospital, including 85 midwives, received £735,000 in payouts after being exposed to nitrous oxide levels up to 30 times higher than legal workplace limits between 2021 and 2023. The Royal College of Midwives called it the largest group legal action ever brought by midwives in the UK.
The trust acknowledged staff were exposed to dangerous levels and that it should have acted faster to inform and protect them.
