Next-gen hopping robot is the smart flea we didn't know we needed
Reported byNew Atlas ↗·Sourced by Goodlede
University of Washington engineers built DirectHop, a 1-gram hopping robot inspired by fleas, that can jump higher than a standard stair step and achieve precise control over both large and small jumps by adjusting electric current to its motor.
The robot currently has an external power source; future versions may be battery-powered.
Goodlede runs a two-pass source check on every story: one pass finds it, a second skeptical pass re-verifies the claim and writes what it doesn’t prove. This is a source check, not an independent fact-check — confirm anything important at the link above.
