Researchers from the University of Zurich identified five blood biomarkers that, combined with biological sex, predict takotsubo (broken-heart) syndrome with 90% accuracy in an independent validation study of more than 3,600 patients. The BioTAK score could reduce reliance on invasive cardiac catheterization for diagnosis.
The test will not replace cardiac catheterization in all cases but may help guide diagnostic procedures and avoid unnecessary invasive testing in selected patients.
