MIT develops robot that slithers through intestines like a snake
Reported byPopular Science ↗·Sourced by Goodlede
MIT engineers have designed BIOSENTER, a soft robot that moves through the small intestine by alternately pumping air through inflatable chambers, mimicking how earthworms and snakes move. The robot can photograph tissue, administer drugs, and take biopsy samples, and represents a potential faster alternative to double-balloon enteroscopy.
The robot has been tested and published in Science Robotics; human trials and real-world clinical deployment have not yet been documented.
