The Metropolitan Museum of Art officially broke ground on September 15 on its 126,000-square-foot Tang Wing for modern and contemporary art, designed by Mexican architect Frida Escobedo, the first woman to design a wing at The Met. The new wing will expand 20th- and 21st-century art galleries by nearly 50%, adding 69,500 square feet of exhibition space while improving accessibility and reducing energy consumption.
The wing is slated to open in 2030; construction is underway but not complete.
