Madagascar Designates Protected Landscape in Tsinjoarivo's Montane Rainforest

Madagascar's government officially designated 65,858 acres of montane rainforest as the Tsinjoarivo-Ambalaomby Protected Area on June 15, 2026, marking the country's first major protected-area declaration in a decade and securing habitat for critically endangered species including the Diademed Sifaka.

This is a Category V protected landscape, which permits sustainable human use alongside conservation; enforcement capacity and long-term funding will determine effectiveness.
