Killer cotton eradicates microbes using ordinary white light
Reported byNew Atlas ↗·Sourced by Goodlede
Spanish scientists at Universitat Politècnica de València developed a self-disinfecting cotton fabric combining cotton with chitosan and antimicrobial dyes that, when exposed to ordinary white light, inactivated E. coli bacteria within 60 minutes, Enterococcus faecalis within 20 minutes, and achieved significant reduction of Candida albicans fungus within three hours in hospital testing.
Tested in lab conditions and in a hospital setting with 12 patients over 48 hours. Not yet available for clinical use or mass production.
