Curt Bloch, born to a Jewish family in 1908, produced Het Onderwater-Cabaret (The Underwater Cabaret) while in hiding in an attic in the Dutch town of Enschede during Nazi occupation. Over two years he created 96 hand-assembled, thread-stitched issues totalling over 1,700 pages of art and poems, circulated among 20 to 30 hidden readers. All 96 issues are now digitized and annotated at Curt-Bloch.com with translations and recorded performances.
