Hepatitis C cure in 8 weeks, not 12: Indian trial cuts cost by a third
Reported byThe Indian Express ↗·Sourced by Goodlede
A randomised controlled trial by India's Council of Medical Research published in The Lancet found that an 8-week course of sofosbuvir-velpatasvir cured 98.8% of hepatitis C patients without cirrhosis, matching the 99% cure rate of the standard 12-week regimen and reducing treatment costs by approximately one-third.
The trial enrolled 880 patients without cirrhosis; further research is needed to determine if treatment can be shortened for those with more advanced liver disease.
