GLP-1 weight-loss medication could slow aging and extend lifespan
Reported byScientific American ↗·Sourced by Goodlede
A new study published in Nature found that semaglutide (sold as Wegovy or Ozempic) extended median lifespan in 20-month-old female mice by about 12 percent—from 742 to 834 days—while also outperforming calorie restriction in maintaining memory and blood sugar control.
The study was conducted in mice; translation to human lifespans and aging will require further research and clinical trials.
