Astronomers at the University of Wisconsin–Madison confirmed GJ 523b on July 23, 2026—an unusually dense mega-Earth with 23.5 times Earth's mass but only 2.5 times its diameter, making it the best example of a mega-Earth known so far. The planet is estimated to be only 170 million years old and orbits an orange dwarf star.
