Germany's Federal Office for Economic Affairs has approved 100,000 applications for electric car subsidies totaling over €430 million since the program launched in May 2026, with 90% going to battery-electric vehicles and 10% to plug-in hybrids. The approval rate doubled from 50,000 in September to nearly 98,000 by October 1.
The program applies retroactively from January 1, 2026, and includes certain plug-in hybrids alongside battery-electric vehicles.
