Fifteen ancient Greek artifacts spanning 5,000 years returned to Greece after seizure at the Met

The Manhattan District Attorney's Antiquities Trafficking Unit seized 15 ancient Greek artifacts valued at nearly $3 million from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and returned them to Greece on September 23, 2026, including bronze military armor from the seventh century B.C.E., marble figurines dating to 2700 B.C.E., and a Hellenistic gold necklace, with some pieces to be reunited with items from the same illegal 1964 excavation at the Iraklio archaeological museum.
