Experimental vaccine shows promise against deadly brain cancer in some patients
Reported byRoswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center ↗·Sourced by Goodlede
In a Phase 2b trial of 233 people newly diagnosed with glioblastoma, adding the vaccine SurVaxM to standard chemotherapy raised median survival to 22.8 months from 20.3 on placebo. For patients 65 and under the gain was statistically significant: 24.2 months versus 20.2, and 42% were alive at 30 months versus 18%.
A mid-stage trial: the overall survival gain fell just short of statistical significance, the results are not yet peer-reviewed, and the vaccine is not approved.
