The International Council on Clean Transportation's 2026 'EV Transition Check' report shows that in 2025, battery-electric vehicles cost 33 percent less to operate daily than petrol-engine cars across the EU. Even EVs charged exclusively at public charging stations were 28% cheaper. Battery costs fell 35% globally between 2020 and 2025, and purchase prices for battery-electric cars in Germany fell 18% over the same period while combustion-engine prices rose 2%.
