Carterville water infrastructure project near completion

Carterville, Illinois has completed a $7 million project to upgrade its over-100-year-old water system, bringing a new water main along Division Street, a ground storage tank, and a water tower into service. The new infrastructure adds 800,000 gallons of water storage capacity and new valve systems that allow crews to isolate 1-to-3 block areas during repairs instead of shutting down larger portions of the system.

The broader system replacement will continue over time; the city is already planning additional projects to replace more aging cast-iron water lines.
