California pushes for greater energy security with electric vehicles

Governor Gavin Newsom signed a package of legislation that modernises permitting rules to accelerate public charger deployment, clarifies that streamlined rules apply to related work such as electrical upgrades and battery storage, and reduces permitting barriers for charging projects at apartments and mixed-use developments.

The laws address permitting and infrastructure barriers; they build on but are separate from the state's MyFirstEV rebate program ($3,500 new, $1,750 used).
