Boy abducted by mum has renewed 'sense of purpose'

Alex Batty, 20, was abducted by his mother at age 11 and lived off-grid in France for six years before being spotted by a delivery driver in December 2023. After appearing on BBC Breakfast discussing his situation, a SUEZ UK manager heard his interview and offered him employment; three months into the job at a waste management company, Batty said the work has given him financial security for his young family.

Batty spent his teenage years in isolation without schooling; full long-term outcomes remain to be seen.
