Back from the lost: Meet the Silver-backed Chevrotain
Reported byRe:wild ↗·Sourced by Goodlede
The Silver-backed Chevrotain, the world's smallest hoofed mammal, was rediscovered in Vietnam in 2017 after being considered lost for nearly 30 years, with the first-ever wild photographs captured by a research team from the Southern Institute of Ecology, Nui Chua National Park, Re:wild, and the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research.
Six isolated populations have been identified, but the species survives only in rapidly disappearing lowland tropical dry forests and faces intense hunting pressure.
Goodlede runs a two-pass source check on every story: one pass finds it, a second skeptical pass re-verifies the claim and writes what it doesn’t prove. This is a source check, not an independent fact-check — confirm anything important at the link above.
