A London Scheme to Cut Car Pollution Restored Lung Growth in Children
Reported byYale Environment 360 ↗·Sourced by Goodlede
After London's Ultra Low Emission Zone launched in 2019, researchers tracked 3,400 children aged 6-9 and found that lung growth accelerated: pollution fell more than twice as much in Central London as in comparison areas, and the proportion of children with impaired lung function dropped from 14% to 9% by 2022.
The study measured lung growth over five years; long-term respiratory health outcomes will require further follow-up.
