A first-of-its-kind US factory could make grid batteries safer
Reported byElectrek ↗·Sourced by Goodlede
Anthro Energy has broken ground on a factory in Louisville, Kentucky that will produce 12,000 metric tons of polymer electrolyte annually when it opens in late 2027, enough to support up to 25 gigawatt-hours of lithium-ion batteries yearly. The company's Proteus platform converts to a solid or semi-solid polymer during cell formation, reducing fire risk and short-circuit potential in grid storage systems.
The factory is under construction and will not open until late 2027; claims about improved energy density and cycle life remain to be validated at commercial scale.
