Detroit Zoo and Audubon Nature Institute have shipped 500 and 200 Partula snails respectively to Tahiti as part of an international recovery program that has returned 11 Partula species from extinction in the wild and released over 17,000 individual snails to their native French Polynesian islands.
The snails are being released into restored habitat in Tahiti; long-term survival and population viability depend on ongoing management and continued predator control.
