Spain's network of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas expanded from 466 to 485 sites, covering over 25 million hectares—an increase of 1.5 million hectares. The revision, the most comprehensive since 2011, confirmed 19 new IBAs and evaluated 378 existing sites using updated 2020 criteria.
