Researchers at Sanford Burnham Prebys and University of Michigan identified that the protein p58IPK plays a critical role in preventing misfolded proinsulin accumulation in pancreatic beta cells; when removed, insulin production drops significantly, suggesting strengthening this cellular system could slow diabetes progression.
