World's Largest Wildlife Crossing Set To Open In California In 2026
Reported byTravel Noire ↗·Sourced by Goodlede
The Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing in Agoura Hills will open December 2, 2026, spanning 250ft × 174ft over U.S. Highway 101 plus an additional structure over Agoura Road, totaling nearly 13 acres. First stage completed June 2025. Funded through public-private partnership including Caltrans, National Wildlife Federation, National Park Service, and Annenberg Foundation. Designed to reconnect fragmented habitat for mountain lions and other wildlife separated by the freeway.
Does not prove the crossing will achieve its conservation goals; actual wildlife usage, genetic diversity improvement, and long-term ecosystem restoration remain to be demonstrated post-opening. Weather delays have already occurred; final completion date subject to conditions.
