UK begins trials of Ebola vaccine developed in just eight weeks
Reported byBBC News ↗·Sourced by Goodlede
University of Oxford scientists developed a new Ebola vaccine in eight weeks using the same viral-vector technology as the Oxford/AstraZeneca Covid vaccine, and the UK Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency has approved it for human clinical trials on 50 healthy adults beginning within weeks. The Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has killed 625 people with 1,792 confirmed cases.
The vaccine is in early-stage (phase one) trials; efficacy in humans and durability remain to be established over the coming months.
