The DC metro area is getting its first en-route electric bus chargers
Reported byElectrek ↗·Sourced by Goodlede
Construction has started on two 360 kW overhead pantograph chargers for DASH (Alexandria Transit) in Alexandria, Virginia, funded by over $1 million in federal Fiscal Year 2024 appropriations. The chargers will enable electric buses to recharge on routes and stay in service longer, supporting DASH's transition to a fully zero-emission fleet; the agency has deployed 16 battery-electric buses with 20 more funded.
Construction completion expected in 2027; long-term success depends on continued infrastructure expansion and operational integration.
