UCLA and Ewha Womans University researchers demonstrated a chemical process that converts mixed unsorted plastic waste (PET, PE, PP) into high-purity hydrogen (>90%) at temperatures 300–400°C lower than conventional gasification, storing carbon as solid mineral instead of releasing CO2.
The process has been tested in laboratory conditions; scalability to industrial production remains to be demonstrated.
