Researchers at Memorial Sloan Kettering identified MEK as a driver of T cell exhaustion and showed in animal studies that inhibiting MEK allows cancer-fighting T cells to multiply more while consuming less energy, potentially preventing the loss of immunotherapy efficacy that currently limits checkpoint inhibitor treatments.
The findings are limited to animal models; clinical testing in humans is planned but not yet underway.
