Rare seed collection offers hope for last wild tree of its kind from Chile
Reported byMongabay ↗·Sourced by Goodlede
Conservationists collected approximately 400 seeds from the last known wild Dendroseris neriifolia on Chile's Robinson Crusoe Island; 24 seeds showed viable embryo development and are now undergoing germination trials, with seedlings to be shared with botanical gardens for cultivation refinement before eventual repatriation to Chile for habitat restoration.
Restoration of wild populations will require long-term investment in habitat restoration, invasive species control, and monitoring—success is not yet assured.
