Rare palm tree rediscovered in Madagascar after nearly 100 years

Researchers tracked down 28 individuals of Ravenea latisecta, a critically endangered palm species last recorded nearly a century ago, within four protected areas in Madagascar's Andasibe-Mantadia region.

The species remains critically endangered with fewer than 50 mature individuals known to exist, and no fruiting individuals were found during surveys, limiting immediate propagation efforts.
