As of 16 July 2026, 156.7 million (80.93%) of India's 193.6 million rural households now have tap water supply connections through the Jal Jeevan Mission, up from 32.3 million (16.7%) at the mission's August 2019 start—an addition of 124.3 million households in under seven years.
A 2022 functionality assessment found 86% of installed connections were working; the 2024 assessment is underway. Regional disparities remain.
