Internet Access Soars, Costs Plummet on Island Following the End its Federal Telecom Monopoly

The Federated States of Micronesia ended its government telecom monopoly, and internet access increased 20-fold while broadband costs fell 99%—from $65.00 per Mbps per month to 78 cents. Over 1,500 kilometers of undersea fiber optic cables have been laid and satellite networks deployed across the archipelago's 600+ islands spanning 2.9 million square kilometers.
